What this calculator does
It plans how to cut architectural (flat glass) window film from the rolls you can buy, and compares up to four roll widths by the film each one uses.
- Cut allowance: the margin you enter is added on every side of each glass size (default 1" / 25 mm).
- Roll width and roll length: each width gets its own plan. With a roll length, the plan is split into rolls and the number of rolls is shown.
- Rotation: pieces may be turned 90° when that saves film. Turn rotation off for patterned or directional film.
- Excluded pieces: pieces that need a splice, that only fit rotated while rotation is off, or that are longer than the roll are listed separately and left out of the totals.
- "Best plan found" and "Proven optimal": each plan is labelled "Best plan found", or "Proven optimal" only when no plan can use less film length for those pieces on that roll width.
What it does not do
- Splice planning or optimization (pieces that need a splice are only flagged).
- Automotive window tint.
- Paint protection film (PPF).
- Plotter or cutting-machine patterns.
